What Talika is known for

Paris eye-care brand traced to WWII, when nurse Danielle Roches developed a plant-based balm for soldiers' burned eyes that was found to stimulate lash growth. Became an international lash/brow specialist after Alexis de Brosses took over in 1994.

Talika's origin dates to the Second World War, when Danielle Roches, working as a nurse in the ophthalmology department of a Paris hospital, developed a plant-based balm to treat soldiers' burned eyes. The balm's intended use was medical, but it produced a side effect Roches noticed and pursued commercially: it visibly stimulated the growth of eyelashes and eyebrows. She marketed the formula as a standalone cosmetic product, and in 1948 launched what the brand describes as its first dedicated eyelash-conditioning cream, positioning Talika as a specialist in a category - lash and brow care - that barely existed as a distinct segment of cosmetics at the time. The company built its Paris reputation on this narrow specialization rather than a broad general skincare range. In 1994, Alexis de Brosses took over the brand and modernized Roches's original formula, introducing Lipocils, an early gel treatment for eyelash growth, and pushed the brand into international markets starting with Japan. Talika has since expanded its range to include broader eye-area skincare and LED light-therapy devices described as inspired by NASA research, while keeping lash and brow treatment as its core identity; the brand is now sold in more than 40 countries.
