What Tom Ford Beauty is known for

Fragrance and cosmetics line launched in 2005 through a licensing partnership between designer Tom Ford and Estee Lauder; built the brand with Black Orchid (2006) and the Private Blend collection. Estee Lauder Companies acquired the full Tom Ford brand outright for about $2.8 billion in 2022-2023.

Tom Ford had already resurrected Gucci and built his own suiting empire when he turned to scent, and he approached beauty the way he approached everything: as seduction engineering. The venture with Estée Lauder was signed in 2005 alongside Domenico De Sole, Ford's Gucci-era partner, and Black Orchid (2006) announced the register — opulent, nocturnal, unapologetically adult. The Private Blend collection, launched 2007, became niche perfumery's most successful colonization of the mainstream: Oud Wood made oud a Western staple, Tobacco Vanille and Lost Cherry built cult followings, Fucking Fabulous dared department stores to print its name.

The cosmetics carry the same architecture — lipsticks in gold-clad bullets weighted like small weapons, the Shade and Illuminate palettes that made "Tom Ford face" a makeup-artist term.

Estée Lauder agreed in November 2022 to acquire the Tom Ford brand outright for about $2.8 billion, closing in 2023 — its largest acquisition ever — for a beauty business, essentially. The founder has exited; the formula he set remains: luxury as confidence you can spray.
