His all-white 1968 collection remains a couture landmark. The founder retired in 2008 after a nearly fifty-year reign unusual for its consistency of vision: unapologetic beauty, Roman grandeur, extraordinary atelier handwork. Successors — most influentially Pierpaolo Piccioli — carried the couture spirit forward, keeping the Roman ateliers central and the red renewed.
