<p>Loris Azzaro built the wardrobe for the hour after midnight. Born in Tunis to Sicilian parents, he arrived in Paris in the 1960s and founded his house on the Faubourg Saint-Honoré, where it still stands — first with jewelry and crocheted party pieces, then with the sequined, body-lit evening dresses that made him the darling of the decade's sirens. His three-ring dress of 1967 remains one of the most photographed garments of its era, and Marisa Berenson, Brigitte Bardot and Sophia Loren wore his sparkle like a native language.</p><p>Azzaro understood glamour as engineering: chains that move with the walk, jersey cut to catch light, backs lower than Paris thought advisable. The house translated that heat into fragrance with rare success — Azzaro pour Homme in 1978 became a masculine classic, and Chrome, launched in 1996, built an empire of its own on Mediterranean air.</p><p>The couture house continues on its historic street, periodically revived by guest couturiers, while the fragrances carry the name worldwide. The core proposition has never needed updating: evening as a place you dress for, and sequins as a serious material.</p>
