Kawazoe Seizan traces its lineage to a painter at the Nabeshima domain's official kiln and was refounded as a private workshop in 1883 by Kawazoe Hansaburo after the han system was abolished. The fifth-generation family kiln still fires celadon and indigo Nabeshima ware in Okawachiyama, the valley once reserved exclusively for the clan's potters.
