What Ludovic de Saint Sernin is known for

Paris label founded in 2017 by designer Ludovic de Saint Sernin, known for body-conscious tailoring, eyelet briefs and a gender-fluid, sensuality-driven aesthetic; a finalist for the 2018 LVMH Prize, as listed by the prize organizers and winner of the ANDAM Prize.

Ludovic de Saint Sernin was born in Brussels and grew up on the Ivory Coast before moving to Paris at age seven. He studied womenswear at École Duperré, then interned at Dior and Saint Laurent and worked at Balmain before launching his eponymous label in 2017. The brand is built around a philosophy the designer calls 'l'amour au masculin' — love in the masculine — approaching design without fixed gender categories and drawing on a 1990s supermodel-era sensuality applied to menswear codes. Signature pieces include body-conscious tailoring and the eyelet brief, and the label's runway shows and campaigns have positioned it as a visible part of fashion's New Queer wave. Its designs have been worn publicly by figures including musician Steve Lacy, Solange, and photographer Petra Collins. The house has been recognized within the French fashion establishment, receiving a nomination for the LVMH Prize and winning the ANDAM Prize, and is listed as a member house of the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode (FHCM). The brand operates primarily online and through wholesale, based out of Paris.
