Maison Jouvaud

La Maison Jouvaud was founded in 1948 in Nîmes by Gilbert and Lisette Jouvaud, who soon moved their pâtisserie to their home region, the Comtat Venaissin, settling in Carpentras on Place du Colonel Mouret before relocating to rue de l'Évêché in 1968. Their children, Frédéric and Nicole, took over the business from the late 1970s until 2010, when it passed to a third generation, Pierre and Jeanne-Marie Jouvaud, who built a new production site and shop on avenue Saint-Roch outside the town center. The house is a member of Relais Desserts International, a group of independent pastry houses, and exports its confections as far as Japan, where a Jouvaud pâtisserie has operated since 2004. Its range centers on Provençal specialties: candied fruit, meringues, calissons, chocolates and cakes, alongside papalines d'Avignon — small chocolate shells filled with origan liqueur from the Comtat, traditionally colored pink as a nod to cardinals' robes — sold in its Carpentras, Avignon and L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue shops.
