Santoni

Andrea Santoni began making shoes in Corridonia, in the Marche shoemaking district, in 1975, and the house his son Giuseppe expanded remains family-run and rooted there. Santoni's signature is visible before the shoe is handled: hand-painted patina finishes, built up in translucent layers so that each pair's color has depth and slight individuality — a technique the house made central rather than occasional. The construction underneath is classical Marche craft: Goodyear and Blake welting, hand-stitched details, a double-buckle monk strap that became the house's best-known model and helped return that style to fashion. The range runs from sneakers to bespoke, but the dress shoes carry the argument. Look at the patina in natural light when buying — the layered browns and burgundies are the house's actual signature, applied by brush in Corridonia, and no two pairs read identically.
