Club Monaco

New York

What Club Monaco is known for

Toronto-founded (1985) menswear-and-womenswear brand later owned by Ralph Lauren (1999-2021); sold to private-equity firm Regent LP in 2021. Known for a Fifth Avenue New York flagship among its multi-country store network.

Club Monaco was founded in Toronto in 1985 by Joe Mimran and Alfred Sung, building a reputation for pared-back, minimalist basics - cotton knits, tailored trousers, cashmere - at a step below full luxury pricing. Ralph Lauren Corporation acquired the brand in 1999 and expanded it into the United States, Europe and Asia, opening a flagship on Fifth Avenue in New York that for years combined clothing with a Strand Books outpost and a cafe. In May 2021, Ralph Lauren sold Club Monaco to Los Angeles private-equity firm Regent LP; the brand brought on a new creative director in September 2022 as part of a relaunch focused on returning to its original quality-and-simplicity positioning. Club Monaco now operates as a standalone company under Regent, with stores across North America and licensed operations elsewhere.
