What Darjeeling is known for
French lingerie chain launched 1995 by Groupe Chantelle (founded 1876) as an accessible, size-inclusive line; grew into one of France's largest lingerie retail networks, with roughly 160 boutiques nationwide.
Darjeeling was created in 1995 by Groupe Chantelle, the French lingerie manufacturer founded in 1876, as the group's first brand sold exclusively through its own retail network. The intent was an accessible lingerie line spanning a wide range of body types and age groups. Darjeeling grew quickly, becoming the second-largest lingerie retail chain in France by store count from the early 2000s, trailing only Etam. It launched e-commerce in 2011 and began adding franchised boutiques from 2012, reaching roughly 164 boutiques by the end of 2022. The brand remains part of the Chantelle Group alongside sister labels Chantelle, Chantelle Easyfill and Livera.
