Kopi Sidikalang by Awi Coffee

Kopi Sidikalang traces its history to 1945, when a founder identified on the company's own materials as Jio opened the business in Binjai, North Sumatra, under the name Soen Lie Hin. The company has changed names twice since, to UD Segar Harum in 1970, and to its current corporate identity, PT Awi Kopi Indonesia, in 2021, a rare degree of documented continuity for an Indonesian coffee business spanning eight decades. Production now runs on Probatone roasting equipment paired with color-sorting machinery, described on the site as world-class technology, and the coffee is exported to Japan, Singapore, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, the United States, Europe and Australia as a registered member of Indonesia's Coffee Exporters Association. Retail has expanded alongside the export business: beyond the original Binjai site, the company opened a Medan outlet in 2009 and a Jakarta location in 2020, with Surabaya named as a planned next expansion. The company holds MUI halal certification since 2016 and lists a run of regional recognition, including a Top Regional Brand award in 2010 and Product Quality Awards in 2014, positioning it as an established name in Indonesian coffee rather than a recent entrant trading on nostalgia alone.
