What L'Éclaireur is known for
Paris concept-store pioneer founded 1980 by Armand and Martine Hadida; the Sevigne location (opened 2009, designed with artist Arne Quinze) stocks Carol Christian Poell and other avant-garde labels.
L'Eclaireur was founded in January 1980 by Armand and Martine Hadida, opening a roughly 23-square-yard shop on the Champs-Elysees that mixed high fashion with design, art and furniture before the term 'concept store' existed. Hadida became an early French distributor for designers including Girbaud, Prada, Helmut Lang, John Galliano, Ann Demeulemeester and Martin Margiela. In 1990 the store relocated to a larger space in Le Marais. Its rue de Sevigne location, opened in October 2009, was designed in collaboration with Belgian artist Arne Quinze and built around roughly two tons of wooden planking and more than 120 sliding video screens that conceal the clothing racks - WeAr magazine named it the world's best concept store that year.
