Norse Projects began in Copenhagen in 2004, not as a clothing label but as a retail shop and informal gallery space founded by Tobia Sloth, Anton Juul and Mikkel Grønnebæk. In its early years the shop functioned as a hub for imported streetwear that wasn't otherwise easy to find in Denmark, while also hosting art exhibitions and supporting local artists - closer to a curated multi-brand concept store than a fashion house. The founders launched Norse Projects as its own menswear line in 2009, building a design language around understated Scandinavian tailoring crossed with technical and workwear references rather than logo-driven streetwear. A womenswear line followed for the Fall/Winter 2015 season. Among its recurring pieces, the Aros chino has become one of the label's signatures: offered in a heavyweight broken cotton twill for a classic straight-leg cut, and in a lighter stretch-cotton twill for a slimmer, mid-rise fit, aimed at a wardrobe basic rather than a seasonal statement piece. Production is spread across Denmark, Italy and Portugal, consistent with the brand's positioning as a considered, quality-driven independent label rather than a mass-market chain.
