Jil Sander earned the title "Queen of Less" by proving minimalism could be sensual. From Hamburg in 1968 she built a house on purity of line, architectural tailoring, and fabrics so luxurious they made ornament redundant — cashmere doubled, wool bonded, a navy coat as a complete argument. Through the 1990s her runway was fashion's cleanest room, and her cosmetics and menswear extended the same discipline.

The house's corporate history is famously operatic — Sander left twice after clashes with Prada Group's Patrizio Bertelli, returned, left again — yet the aesthetic held. Raf Simons's tenure sharpened it into modernist couture; Lucie and Luke Meier's decade softened it with craft and quiet; in 2025 Simone Bellotti took the studio under OTB Group ownership.

That the label survived every departure of its founder and still means one exact thing is the real achievement: Jil Sander is less a designer's name now than fashion's word for rigor. The Milan flagship sells it the way it was always meant — nothing extra, everything considered.
