In her Minimes workshop in Toulouse, Annette Hardouin dyes scarves, jewelry, and textiles in the historic blue of Isatis tinctoria, the pastel plant that once made Toulouse rich. AHPY also opens its doors for hands-on pastel dyeing workshops, sending visitors home with a hand-dyed scarf square.

Best for French denim and workwear — jackets, jeans, and fatigue pants
Champ de Manoeuvres was founded in 2015 in Toulouse by Ahmed Taoufiki and Armand Teboul, two founders who came from the garment trade itself. Their focus from the start was vintage workwear and military clothing: 1940s work garments, 1950s uniforms, 1960s fatigues, reinterpreted rather than simply reproduced. Champ de Manoeuvres has built its catalogue around Japanese and selvedge denim jeans, moleskin and wool work jackets, utility pants, chambray and seersucker shirts, and outerwear like parkas, pea coats and bomber jackets, much of it produced in France. A notable part of the brand's sourcing involves buying up old military stock and remaking it into new pieces.
